Crimes Against Nature
It was my intent, last time, to be finished with the discussions on the
environment.   Thought it was time to move on to a new subject.  That was, right
up until  I ran across this article written by a man who is leading the fight against
anti-environmental legislation.  He is the Chief Prosecuting Attorney for
Riverkeeper, the Senior Attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council and
the President of the Waterkeeper Alliance.  You might recognize his name; Robert
F. Kennedy Jr.

This Article is quite long, about 16 pages.  It does, though, clearly present and
define our national environmental problems.  Mr. Kennedy thoroughly outlines the
crimes that  I so feebly have been trying to get across to you in the last two
issues.

Please read it all otherwise you might miss the context surrounding some of the
excerpts I am listing below:

...Republican pollster Frank Luntz, "The environment is  probably the single issue
on which Republicans in general and President Bush in particular are most
vulnerable" ... "Not only do we risk losing the swing vote, but our suburban female
base could abandon us as well."

...Wise Use founder (don't you love the name-this is a Timber Industry Group)
Ron Arnold "Our goal is to destroy, to eradicate the environmental movement.
We want to be able to exploit the environment for private gain, absolutely."

...Tom Delay (House leader), and one time Houston exterminator, determined to
rid the world of pesky pesticide regulation referred to the EPA as "the Gestapo of
government."

... Cheney explained "Conservation may be a sign of personal virtue, but it should
not be the basis of a comprehensive energy policy."

... The EPA's chief enforcement officer, Eric Schaeffer, resigned ... "With the Bush
administration, whether or not environmental laws are enforced depends on who
you know, If you've got a good lobbyist you can just buy your way out of trouble"

... The White House quietly dropped... charges against Koch Industries... Koch
faced a ninety seven count federal felony indictment and $357 million in fines for
knowingly releasing ninety mega tons of carcinogenic benzene and concealing
the releases from federal regulators.   Koch executives contributed $800,000 to
Bush's presidential campaign and to other top Republicans.

Please Read It All.  Print it out if you have to (print on both sides of the paper
please). You need to Know!
