Help Prevent Mercury Pollution

I have hit the subject of Mercury emissions pretty hard lately in A DIFFERENT
SLANT but I think with good reason. It affects not those of us who are reading
this email, but those of us who aren't ready to read yet and who cannot protect
themselves.  Here is a way you can help.  This isn't a partisan issue this is an
issue of health.  People within the Kansas City area should be very concerned
as there is a high possibility that there will be 2 more power plants built within
30 miles of the city within the very near future.  For those who have already
received this from "moveon.com", I apologize for the duplication.  But
sometimes for emphasis things should be said 2 times.  After you have signed
the petition, please send a letter similar to this one to everybody you know,
don't worry if there is an overlap (maybe they have already received it from
me): Because sometimes for emphasis things should be said 3 times

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that 4.9 million
women of childbearing age in the U.S. -- that's 8 percent -- have mercury
levels in their blood that are unsafe. Exposure to unsafe levels of mercury can
cause damage to a child's brain, delaying walking and talking, and even
lowering a child's intelligence. The biggest source of mercury pollution in the U.
S. is emissions from power plants.

Will you join me in helping prevent mercury pollution? The EPA is now
accepting public comments on mercury controls, at:

http://www.moveon.org/mercury/

The EPA is trying to back away from strict safeguards against mercury
pollution from power plants, despite the advice of its own experts and advisory
panels. In December, the EPA announced a mercury plan that will expose our
children to far more mercury, for far longer, than what the agency has said is
achievable and cost-effective.

This should trouble all of us. The EPA’s job should be to protect kids and the
rest of us from dangerous pollution.

Please join me in speaking up on this. You can send the EPA your comments
here:

Thanks & Take Care

Paul

P.S.  I'll be quiet now for at least a week, I promise,,,,,,,,, Unless of course
something important comes up!
