| I have never understood the meaning of “All’s fair in love”; but I've always understood “All’s fair in war”. The point is: to win! Crush the enemy any way you can. Make them suffer and submit or be destroyed. Right doesn't have to be on your side. Power, cunning and savagery are the only tools of the trade needed. The end always justifies the means. Unfortunately, "What's Fair" in politics all too closely resembles the rules of war. It is really a simple and effective plan. You decide what you want to do, for whatever your reasons; and then you do it. Maybe you have to divert attention away from the real battle. Maybe you have to lie a bit, or a lot. But, If you can’t figure out an honorable or logical way to win the argument or achieve the results, you crush the opposition. All you need is the power. We've all witnessed it. It happens from all sides. Remember the Swift Boat Vets or Dan Rather's pretend documents; both geared to assail the characters of the candidates for their actions of 30 years ago... and neither charge had anything to do with the real issues. Rush Limbaugh constantly referred to Kerry as the "tall French-looking candidate" (The idea was: you can't vote for him; why, we don't even eat french fries anymore. Besides, he has a scary wife who donates her fortune to support terrorists). President Bush was portrayed as a rube. Well, I guess we have to concede rubes will beat Frenchies in the old USA every time. Issues like health care, the deficit, and the war gave way to gay marriage, abortion, and stem cell research as the deciders in the voting booth. There seems to be too little common sense, too little honor, too little tolerance, too little respect and too little truth in how "We, the people" allow the country to be run today. We are gripped by fear and led by power groups that purport to protect us as long as we follow them in their self-serving quests. When we get in their way, though, we become the enemy that must suffer, submit or be destroyed. This is no way to run a Democracy. If Abe Lincoln was to debate Douglas in today's world, I'm sure Abe would step up to the platform knowing that all around town there were bills posted referring to him as a rather homely tall French looking candidate, who's wife has mental problems. |

Dr. Ernst Mayr died Feb. 3, 2005 of Liver Cancer. Dr. Mayr was the Harvard Biologist who took the sweeping evolutionary claims of Charles Darwin and showed how the complex process actually worked. Mayr created the first working definition of what a species is, and showed how genetics and population movement combined to form new species, an intellectual process known as evolutionary synthesis. Steven Jay Gould a Harvard biologist termed it "one of the half dozen major scientific achievements of our century" I believe that some think Dr. Mayr's life and work were cut short as punishment for his lack of integration of divine intervention in to his work. At his death Dr. Mayr was 100. No doubt there will be a movement marshaled by the State of Kansas Attorney General to sticker Dr. Mayr's 25 books wherever they reside in libraries through out the entire United States: the note will read: "Evolution is just a theory, it is not a fact!" |
